Dave began his music career at the age of 10 as a soloist in professional choirs, highlighted by his acceptance to the New York City Opera Children's Choir. At the same time Dave began to study guitar and went on to pursue guitar as his major in college. He attended Syracuse University for two years and studied classical and jazz guitar performance under guitarist Carlo Manobianco. He completed his study at NYU as a Music Technology major and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor Of Music.

Dave feels much of his success as a composer stems from his versatility. He enjoys writing piano in many styles ranging from rock and americana to orchestral. His talent as a guitarist of many styles, from jazz to bluegrass flatpicking, rock and classical, gives him a unique, craftsmanlike approach to guitar driven music. "I love the challenge of writing in different genres. Finding what gives them their unique sounds, rhythms and harmonies. Recreating them is something I enjoy and feel I do well".
